Swedish Remedial Massage

The primary goal of a Swedish Remedial Massage is to relax the entire body. This relaxation is accomplished by the therapist applying long gliding strokes on the muscles working in the direction of the blood returning to the heart. Additional Swedish Remedial Massage techniques include circular pressure applied by the hands and the palms, kneading, percussion-like tapping, bending and stretching.

Aside from pure relaxation, the recipient of a Swedish Remedial Massage will benefit from an increasing level of oxygen in the blood and a decrease in toxins in the muscles. This in turn improves circulation and flexibility whilst easing any built up tension.

Swedish Remedial Massage can result in decreases in levels of the stress hormone cortisol, as well as arginine vasopressin-a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol.

A research study conducted by the National Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and published in The New York Times, also found that volunteers in the study had increases in the number of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are part of the immune system, and a boost in the immune cells that may help fight colds and the flu.

Be sure to communicate any specific issues you may have with our resident Swedish Remedial Massage therapist, Susan Skying so that she can customise your massage to your specific needs.
